Janet is a Colorado native, born in Denver, and heard only good things about Golden West as a caregiver for her mother and through her career with in-home care provider Dignity Care in Boulder. When it came time to retire the Towers was her first choice.
“People always speak highly of Golden West. It’s beautifully located with a rich mix of really good people from all backgrounds and careers. I enjoy spending time with them. This is a community of friends,” Janet said.
Janet first moved into Golden West in 2013. She met her wife Sky there in 2017 and they got married the following year. Though life took them away from The Towers a couple of times the feeling of community, the fun activities, and the warmth of the residents kept bringing them back. Now Janet and Sky are settled into an apartment on the 10th floor with beautiful views and easy access to stargazing from the Aspen room.
Janet is a music lover and singer. She is one of the original singers for the Resonance Women’s Chorus of Boulder founded in 2002 and has been performing with the group as a second alto for most of the past 20 years. The chorus is on hiatus now but she is looking forward to when they start rehearsals again. In the meantime, she and Sky are regulars for the piano music sing-alongs organized by another resident and take advantage of the discounted tickets provided by Circle of Care, a Boulder nonprofit organization dedicated to providing accessibility to the arts, education, and social/civic opportunities for older adults. She was also elected to the Resident Advisory Board which runs the monthly Resident Council meetings to hear residents’ concerns/suggestions and share them with management.
“The Board keeps the lines of communication open between residents and the management company to help address any issues that come up, organize activities, and give everyone a voice. I feel very passionate about the Golden West community and like using my life skills to benefit the residents,” Janet said.
