Meet Golden West Resident Elaine Corradino

Three years ago Elaine’s daughter convinced her that Golden West’s family-like atmosphere, activities, and camaraderie among the residents and staff were exactly what she was looking for in a retirement community.

“I walked through the door and felt like I was home,” Elaine said.

Originally from New Jersey, Elaine worked in admissions for a private psychiatric hospital. She and her husband move to Las Vegas for several years to be near her parents in an assisted living community where she also worked in the marketing department. When her mother-in-law in Florida needed them Elaine and her husband moved there to care for her.

Elaine relocated to Colorado to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandson in Boulder when it was time to retire. Her daughter teaches acupuncture and takes students to Golden West, so she was familiar with everything the community offered and introduced Elaine to several people right away.

“None of the other communities I visited compared to Golden West. I love all the activities! We have a lot of live entertainment, art and jewelry shows, and arts and crafts classes,” Elaine said. “Every week there are your favorite activities and something new to try, too.”

Elaine stays very busy at Golden West enjoying access to the fitness classes offered each week. She is also a member of the community’s Golden Gurlz dance group. On Monday nights you will find her playing poker and on Friday nights she plays in a marbles group, a game similar to Chinese checkers.

“We just have a ball,”  Elaine said.

When she first moved to Golden West Elaine started a group for residents to gather to listen and dance to music from the 50s and 60s. After a pause during the pandemic, the group is back for weekly dance nights. She also serves as a floor representative and she is on the Resident Advisory Council which works to address any concerns or requests residents have.

“This is not just a senior building; it’s a community. We are all family here and we take care of each other. I really enjoy my life here,” Elaine said.
